Porcelain Mortar and Pestle
Glass Mortar and Pestle
For grinding, pounding, or crushing
Mortars and pestles, also known simply as pestles, have been used in kitchens for centuries to crush or pulverize solid substances. In addition to their use in medicine, pharmacy, and chemistry, mortars and pestles are commonly found in Asian, Oriental, and Mediterranean cuisines today.
To grind grains or herbs, rub the pestle in a circular motion in the mortar. For optimal results, change directions frequently. The longer you grind, the finer the result will be. Mortars with a rough interior and pestles with a rough grinding surface enhance the grinding effect.
