In Fused-Core® particle technology, the silica-based packaging material is neither non-porous nor fully porous. Instead, a porous shell encases a solid core. The separation takes place in the porous shell, so that the diffusion paths of the analytes in the stationary phase are shortened and the dead volume of the entire column is reduced. This has a positive effect on the A, B and C terms of the Van Deemter equation. The overall band broadening is reduced and possible separation performance is increased.
HALO® columns are based on the Fused-Core® technology and offer all the advantages of sub-2-µm particle columns but without the back pressure. They can therefore be used on both HPLC and UHPLC systems.
