Watch Glasses made of Soda-Lime Glass
Watch Glasses made of DURAN® Borosilicate Glass 3.3
The term "watch glass" is derived from early pocket watches, which typically had a domed protective glass. Similarly, watch glasses are slightly curved upwards at the edges, forming a shallow dish. They are suitable for holding small quantities of liquids for evaporation and can also be heated over a Bunsen burner to speed up vaporisation.
Thanks to their curved shape, watch glasses are also used in laboratories to cover beakers or Petri dishes, protecting them from contamination, splashes, or evaporation.
